The District is committed to seeing its work underpinned in prayer. During 2006 the whole Methodist Church gave itself to a year of prayer and many churches in the District were encouraged and revitalized by a new enthusiasm for prayer. A number of circuits have continued regular 24/7 prayer events and several churches have developed prayer networks in their neighbourhoods, where they have invited local people to share their concerns for prayer.
There are churches with specialist healing ministries, others that have set aside space for quiet prayer. There are prayer gardens and retreat centres across the region and there is a list of those people who are willing to share particular skills and insights with church groups.
The district also has a prayer diary (PDF file, 495 KB) which is designed to be used by individuals in private devotion, or as part of the public acts of worship in church on Sunday, or in midweek fellowships and meetings. The diary will be published every three months, and each edition will be available on the website. The entry for the current week can be seen below.
