The District is looking for a Data Champion to:-

  • Be a champion for District, Circuits and Churches meeting the standards which protect the gathering and use of personal data in accordance with the 2018 General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
  • Be a key link between the District and the Trustees for Methodist Church Purposes (TMPC).  TMPC is the national body for the Methodist Church in implementing GDPR.
  • Encourage confidence in handling personal data as effectively and simply as possible.
  • Help the auditing of present arrangements in the District, Circuits and Churches.
  • Be a local point of reference for enquiries from Churches and Circuits about GDPR.

This is an important contribution to the work of the District as a whole.  It is a voluntary role which will involve some travel.  Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

We are seeking someone with knowledge and commitment to help us demonstrate respect and concern for how personal data is used as part of the Church's determination to be a good neighbour.

Roger Thorne is our longest serving District Offficer.  He has for a long time provided advice and overseen the responsibilities Chruches, Circuits and the District have in culling and archiving the information we have.

The Connexional Office provides online advice about archiving in line with Standing Orders in the Constitution and Discipline of the Methodist Church (CPD). See  https://www.methodist.org.uk/for-ministers-and-office-holders/office-holders/archivists/ but local knowledge and advice has proved very helpful.

Roger is not able to be as mobile as on once he was but retains his interest as District Archivist.  What he really needs is someone to work with him and be ready to take up the reigns when he decides to retire.

.....are you the person to help?
